Tour Overview:
Experience the Great Wildebeest Migration during the spectacular calving season in the Ndutu area, combined with an authentic cultural encounter with the Hadzabe people around Lake Eyasi.
This 5-day safari is designed for travelers who want to combine wildlife, migration photography, predator action and indigenous culture in one carefully paced Northern Tanzania itinerary. The Ndutu area is particularly rewarding from January to March, with the main calving period concentrated around February and early March. Tanzania's tourism information notes that thousands of wildebeest calves can be born daily during the peak, attracting large numbers of predators.
The Hadzabe experience provides a very different perspective: an opportunity to spend time with one of Tanzania's traditional hunter-gatherer communities, learn about their way of life, and, where the community permits and conditions allow, accompany Hadzabe hunters to observe traditional tracking and hunting techniques using bows and arrows.

Day 1: Arusha – Lake Eyasi
Your safari begins in Arusha with pickup from Venice Hotel in the morning. Drive through the Great Rift Valley landscapes toward Lake Eyasi, a remote area south of the Serengeti and near the Ngorongoro region.
Arrive at your mid-range tented camp/lodge for lunch and settle in. In the afternoon, meet members of the Hadzabe community and learn about their traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle, including their relationship with the surrounding bush, food gathering, traditional tools, family life and oral traditions.
Depending on community arrangements and time, you may also have an opportunity to meet the Datoga, known for their pastoral traditions and traditional metalworking.

Day 2: Hadzabe Dawn Hunting Experience – Lake Eyasi – Ndutu
Wake up very early for the highlight of your cultural experience.
Travel to meet your Hadzabe hosts before sunrise and accompany them into the bush. The experience focuses on traditional tracking, hunting knowledge, archery, identification of plants and understanding how the Hadzabe interact with their natural environment.
The Hadzabe continue to practice hunting and gathering, with men traditionally hunting using bows and arrows while women commonly gather wild plant foods.
Where the community chooses to undertake an actual hunting activity, guests may observe the traditional process. A successful hunt is never guaranteed, and the activity should be understood as a cultural experience rather than a staged wildlife encounter.
After the experience, return for breakfast and begin the journey toward the Ndutu area of the Southern Serengeti. Enjoy an afternoon game drive as you enter the migration zone.
During calving season, you can expect enormous wildebeest concentrations, newborn calves, zebra, gazelle and excellent opportunities for predator sightings.

Day 3: Full-Day Ndutu Migration & Calving Safari
Spend a full day exploring the Ndutu plains, keeping your schedule flexible to follow wildlife activity.This is the heart of the safari.
The short-grass plains attract the migrating wildebeest herds during the calving period. You may encounter:
Large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra
Newborn wildebeest calves
Lions following the herds
Cheetahs hunting on the open plains
Spotted hyenas
Jackals
Leopards in suitable habitats
Elephants, giraffes and other resident wildlife
Excellent birdlife
Predator activity can be particularly dramatic because vulnerable newborn calves provide abundant opportunities for lions, cheetahs and hyenas. Your safari guide will select the best areas according to current animal movements, recent sightings and road conditions.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After an early breakfast at Seronera Wildlife Lodge, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a picnic lunch. Enjoy an en-route game drive as you travel through the Serengeti National Park toward the Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Upon arrival, check in for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Tortilis Tented Camp.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha/Moshi or Kilimanjaro International Airport
After breakfast at Ngorongoro Tortilis Tented Camp, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. Explore the crater floor and its remarkable wildlife before ascending to the crater rim in the afternoon.
Continue your journey to Arusha for 1 last night at Venice Hotel / or in Moshi town at BnB Hotel, or proceed directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward flight.

The following are indicative 2026/2027 prices in USD, based on a private mid-range safari, transportation in a 4x4 Land Cruiser, four nights of accommodation, and travel during the Ndutu calving season. Please note that final pricing will depend significantly on the exact travel dates, availability, and the specific lodge or tented camp selected.
Kindly note that safari lodge and tented camp bookings operate similarly to airline reservations, where rates and availability can change depending on demand. In general, the earlier you book, the better the rates and accommodation options available. We therefore strongly recommend making your reservation as early as possible, particularly for travel during the Ndutu calving season, when accommodation tends to fill up quickly.
Published rates for Tortilis Tented Camps and other wildlife lodges generally range from approximately USD 295–499+ per person, per night for mid-range, fully inclusive seasonal camps and lodges. Other safari lodges and camps, such as Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge, may be considerably more expensive.
